Ideal for brunching, lunching or even a lazy dinner, you’d be hard pressed (no pun intended) to find an easier meal than the humble toastie.
Depending on where you’re from, you might call it a jaffle, grilled cheese, toasted sandwich, croque-monsieur or panini. However, the concept remains the same: sweet or savoury toppings sandwiched between two slices of bread. Preferably doused with cheese – and a lot of it!
No-frills and no-rules, a toastie can be created in an infinite number of ways.
Here a couple of our favourite combinations:
- Chicken schnitzel with tomato relish, bacon, avocado and cheddar
- Dijon mustard, ham, asparagus, Jarlsberg or Swiss cheese and egg
- Olive oil, garlic, tomato sauce, cheddar, cherry tomatoes, pesto, basil and feta
- Cream cheese, capsicum, onion, chorizo, cheddar, and a touch of paprika
But it doesn’t stop there. The best thing about toasties is that there are no rules – so, get toasting!
