Nothing beats a homemade lunch, except maybe a free one.
However, in the whirlwind of the day-to-day, filling up lunch boxes for hungry little (or big, for that matter) tummies can seem both time-consuming and costly. Grown-up people need a packed lunch too!
But making delicious and nutritious snacks doesn’t have to be a challenge. Here in the El Gusto test kitchen, we’ve got tons of handy wee lunchbox-friendly recipes that will help get you out of a pickle!
For the fastest of snackers. Â
You don’t even need to turn the heat on for this one – jam-packed with fruit and nuts, our moreish Trail Mix takes less than ten minutes to whip up. We especially like the inclusion of dried figs in here – their fudgy texture imparts a hint of extravagance to the mix.
For the on-the-go eater.Â
On the days that are especially frantic, we often opt for something that we can wolf down when we’re on the run. Our Fruit & Seed Slice the perfect option – El Gusto’s take on the traditional muesli bar is much healthier and tastier.
Made from a wholesome oat base, this tasty little slice will provide you the energy you need – but includes a range of seeds, dried fruits and coconut to give it a texture and flavour pop. And peanut-butter lovers need look no further – the peanuts bind the slice together and add a rich, nutty crunch.
Hmm – maybe you didn’t need that lunch after all…
A snack for the not-quite-lunchers.
Sometimes you just need that in between – not quite a lunch, but a bit more than a snack. Our Antipasto Scones are the perfect answer. Big, bold and cheesy, these hearty scones are studded with the best of Italian flavours.
The addition of cheddar, salami and olives bestows a touch of gourmet that elevates it from your usual bakery scone. We recommend serving with a tangy tomato relish and a generous wedge of vintage cheddar.
The best part about our lunchbox-fillers collection is that they can be frozen – helping solve the lunch-time dilemmas of next week, and next month too!
And it doesn’t stop there. Head to the El Gusto website and browse by course for a much longer list of tried-and-true recipes you can whip up.
Happy snacking!
