Glass jars are a great way to gift and serve salads, marinaded meats, healthy breakfasts or individual desserts. They offer a unique opportunity for food creativity and can be a stunning representation of a multi-ingredient recipe or even a whole meal, correctly portioned to offer the ultimate taste experience for the recipient and pleasing the eyes before the tastebuds even get involved!
There are many variations of artisan jars that can be obtained very inexpensively, but even a ‘plain’, appropriately sized jam or pickle jar will look extremely attractive when layered with the colourful components of a salad or pudding, and you can hand write or print off labels to add the personal finishing touch.
On a practical level, the lid will lock in freshness until the contents are consumed (common-sense food safety always applying!) and any necessary shaking up or stirring can be done in situ too. The jars themselves can be re-used, returned or re-gifted and the cycle goes on.
We have included four of our favourite jar food recipes below, but we are confident that you will soon be looking at other recipes you use or come across and thinking ‘I wonder what that would look like in a jar?’.
