Pizza. We’ll save our words – this dish hardly needs an introduction.
Originally the brainchild of the Italians (grazie amici!) this dish was adopted by Western cultures, and, subsequently topped with more and more cheese until it became the enduring classic we see today.
Fun, fast and delicious, it’s safe to say that pizza is a favourite of many. And, if you think outside the box (and yes, that includes the delivery carton) there are plenty of different ways to breathe new life into this classic.
Here are a couple of El Gusto’s tried and tested versions:
- Mozzarella & Tomato Pizza
Cheese and pizza. It’s like what peanut is to butter, bacon is to eggs, fish is to chips – we could go on and on, but you get the idea. Sometimes simple is better – and this recipe makes the most of that. Containing little more than mozzarella, tomato, and fresh basil on a crisp, chewy crust, it’s the perfect place to start.
- Spicy Chicken Buffalo Pizza
Buffalo wings are always a hit with the crowds – but why stop there? Our spicy chicken buffalo pizza combines the flavours you know and love. Think ranch, saucy, spicy chicken and (need we mention), cheese. And celery? It depends on how healthy you’re feeling, but that’s optional.
- Cheesy Crust Garlic, Spinach & Artichoke Pizza
No pizza recipe collection is complete without at least one mention of the cheesy crust. Our take on this specialty is a little more gourmet. We’ve combined a mozzarella stuffed crust with garlic herb butter, sautéed spinach and artichokes. Delicious, indeed.
- Chicken, Mushroom & Sundried Tomato Pizza
Pizza doesn’t take a day off – it works well for brunches and lunches, snacks and suppers.
But sometimes, you need it to be enough for dinner. This chicken, mushroom and sundried tomato is a substantial little number – studded with salami, spinach and chicken, it’s perfect for meals when you need just a little bit more.
- Apple Crumble Pizza
Because who said the fun stopped with dinner? There are plenty of mouth-watering reasons why pizza can be carried over into pudding time (trust us, we’ve tried), and this apple crumble recipe is one of them. And yes, it’s exactly what you’re imagining – spicy, oaty crumble with sweet apple on a pastry base. Just don’t add cheese this time!
And, that’s just the beginning. The best thing about pizza is that it is risk-free and inexpensive to play around with toppings. Give leftovers a new lease of life or re-purpose those vegetables into something slightly more exciting.
And, if all else fails? Just add cheese.
Happy cooking!
